RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Olivia Tate, Anisha Henderson, and Jonathan Elix were named GAC Track and Field Athletes of the week, the league announced on Tuesday afternoon. It is the first weekly conference recognition for each Bison in their career.
Tate (Track) and Henderson (Field) swept the track and field nods on the women's side, while Elix shared the field recognition with Harding's Vlad Malykhin.
Tate, a freshman from Beggs, Okla., claimed her first conference honor after placing second and fourth in the 200m (24.47) and 100m (11.86) at the OBU Invitational. Additionally, she was on the OBU 4x100 and 4x400 teams that took first place at the meet. Tate's second-leg split in the 4x100 ushered the Bison to a 46.61 finish, the 14th fastest time in the nation.
Henderson took top honors in the long jump with a leap of 5.92m (19-5.25) and was also a part of the 4x100 relay squad. Henderson's jump was one of two individual Bison marks to meet the NCAA DII provisional standard this past weekend.
Elix, a freshman from Hobart, Okla., cleared 2.13m (6-11.75) to place first in the high jump. It ranks as the third-highest jump in the country and nearly snapped the OBU high jump outdoor record of 2.15m, set by Mark Elliston in 1984.
The Bison will return to action this week at Texas Relays in Austin, Texas.
