Bison Aiming for Another GAC Series Win

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (7-7, 2-4 GAC) will head to Alva for a three-game conference series this weekend against Northwestern Oklahoma State (8-8, 2-4 GAC).

The two teams will play a single game on March 3 at 3 p.m. before a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. In series history, OBU is 19-2 all-time against the Rangers, which includes a 17-game winning streak when the series started on March 19, 2016.

OBU's offense was superb during its last game against Emporia State. The team collected a season-high 16 hits, five home runs and 15 RBI. Individually, Kade Self had three hits and three RBI while Trey Furrey also notched three hits with two runs batted in. Junior catcher Alex Schroeder also tallied a pair of home runs and three RBI.

There was a bit of movement in the GAC statistical rankings after that Bison performance, and others in the last week. Take a look:
Home Runs Alex Schroeder; T2nd; 6 HRs
Triples Trey Furrey; T2nd; 2
Walks Dan Pruitt; 3rd; 14 BB
On-Base Percentage Jayden Shafer; 9th; .500
Sacrifice Flies Shafer; T3rd; 2 SFs

On the pitching front, the Bison had some struggles against Emporia and in their series finale against Harding. However, the green and gold have gotten some good things from a few.

Strikeouts Jake Hamilton; 9th; 24 Ks
Innings Pitched Brek Galbreath; 3rd; 24.0 IP
Strikeouts Looking Hamilton; 3rd; 10 Ks
Wins Galbreath; T5th; 2 W
Saves Will Duncan; T6th; 1 SV

In the other dugout, Northwestern is riding a three-game losing streak after two losses to GAC foe Henderson State and another to No. 21-ranked Rogers State. That last affair was a 7-6 defeat.

Leading the Rangers are Jon Shaffer and Brandon Holdren. Each are batting at least .340 with five doubles. In front of the home run category is Hagen Barcello who has four, which rank in the top seven of the conference. Additionally, Trevor Saire has scored a team-high 14 runs while Shaughn Kelly is 8-for-10 in stolen bases. His eight stolen bags are two off the GAC lead.

On the mound, Dylan Collins and Garrett DeHaas have each made four starts but both have an ERA no better than 6.05. Northwestern's top strikeout leader is Connor Gibson with 16. Additionally, Matthew Potts and Cade Phelps each have attained one save for the Rangers.
