SHAWNEE – Kayleigh Jones was named the Great American Conference Co-Pitcher of the Week for the fourth straight time, the league announced Monday afternoon.
Since Oklahoma Baptist started its 2023 campaign nearly five weeks ago, Jones has received the conference award in all but one week. Today's recognition brings her career total to seven.
Furthermore, no GAC softball pitcher has collected the honor four consecutive times in conference history.
Jones posted a 3-1 record last week, appearing in both games of Tuesday's doubleheader against Newman and twice over the weekend versus Harding. She twirled 24.0 innings and struck out 29 batters without surrendering a single earned run.
In game one against the Jets, Jones recorded 3.0 innings of relief work to secure the 3-2 victory over NU. She struck out five and gave up two hits. Jones returned in game two, fanning five in 3.0 innings of action to secure the sweep of Newman.
Against the Bisons, Jones tallied 18 strikeouts without giving up an earned run in two appearances. She pitched a complete game shutout in game one, punching out 11 batters, before nearly outlasting HU in 11 innings of work in the finale.
In the 12-inning standoff, Jones struck out eight and threw 174 pitches.
This season, she has a staggering ERA of 0.09 in 75.0 innings pitched. She adds 123 strikeouts to go along with 11 wins.
Jones and the Bison return to Shawnee on Friday, March 3, to kick off a three-game series with Northwestern Oklahoma State.
