OBU Returns to GAC Action Versus Harding

SHAWNEE – The second, 3-game Great American Conference series for Oklahoma Baptist is on tap this weekend with Harding coming to Bison Hill.

The Bisons are 11-1 this year which includes a 2-1 conference mark. For OBU, it is 4-6 and 0-3 in the league. This series has been very competitive in recent years with the green and gold owning a slight 4-3 lead over the last seven games. All-time, Harding leads 13-8.

Coach Chris Cox's team is coming off an impressive 9-1 win against Pittsburg State on Feb. 21. In that contest, five different pitchers – Ryan Turbeville, Garrett Kellogg-Clarke, Logan Kimbro, Jordan Brewer and Cameron Pool – combined to give up just one run, four hits and struck out 10 batters.

On the offensive end, the Bison were led by Jayden Shafer's three hits, which included his second home run of the year. Plus, Dan Pruitt and Trey Furrey added two hits each while Jose Parga notched a two-run double.

Shafer has been one of the biggest early-season storylines for the Bison. Check out the GAC statistical leaders so far:

Batting Average Jayden Shafer; 2nd; .500
Slugging Shafer; 5th; .769

Also of note, Alex Schroeder has a team-high nine RBI while four players – Kade Self, Trey Furrey, Gabe Irwin and Brandon Brewer – each have collected two doubles. As a team, though, the Bison have some room for improvement with an overall batting average of .267. That's 11th in the GAC.

Will Duncan: 1.80 ERA, one save, .167 opp. BA

Harding is coming off a two-game sweep of Williams Baptist on Feb. 21. HU is currently the second-best batting team in the GAC at .321. They are also the conference leaders in pitching with a 1.86 ERA and opponent batting average of .196. HU's staff has also given up a league-low 10 extra-base hits.
