SHAWNEE -- The Oklahoma Baptist Bison baseball squad returns to the diamond first thing in February of 2024. Head Coach
Chris Cox returns for his fifth season after leading the green and gold to the GAC Tournament Championship series a season ago.
"It's a schedule that's challenging from start to finish," Cox said. "Having the ability to put together a schedule that features a lot of premier clubs, in both the GAC and MIAA, is a challenge our club looks forward to. If you want to make a good run in the conference regular season and in the postseason, we feel it's imperative to line up a challenging slate."
This new campaign will begin on Feb. 1 versus Pittsburg State in the University of Central Oklahoma Festival. OBU will then battle Emporia State a day later before rounding out the festival with the host Bronchos on Feb. 3.
Five days after that concludes, the Bison will go four games in a row against New Mexico Highlands, which will run from Feb. 8 through the 10th, with two games taking place on the 9th. Those are the first home games for the Bison who will follow with a Tuesday, Feb. 13 home date against Missouri Southern.
Just three days later, on Feb. 16, the Bison will start their first face-off in the Great American Conference with three games against Arkansas Tech. A single game between the squads comes on the 16th followed by a doubleheader a day later. The Bison will then meet the Tigers of East Central on the 20th.
The Bison then journey to Arkansas for three games against Harding, one on the 23rd and two on the 24th. The Bison will finish February by traveling to Joplin, Missouri for another game against Missouri Southern on the 27th.
In March, the Bison will get to stay home for their next three games against Northwestern Oklahoma State, March 1-3. On March 5, they will have two games against UCO. The Bison will spend March 8 and 9 in Durant for three games versus Southeastern Oklahoma State.
On the following weekend, OBU will head to Monticello, Ark., for three contests against the Boll Weevils. That includes a single game on March 15 and two more on the 16th. After that long road haul, the green and gold will return home for five straight games at Bobby Cox Field. Between March 19 and the 26th, the Bison will face Pittsburg State, Southern Arkansas and Southeastern.
Rounding out the month of March will be three games against East Central on the 29th and 30th in Ada.
Finally, in April the Bison will see Northeastern State on the 2nd. That will be followed up by another three-game GAC series in Shawnee against Southwestern Oklahoma State. Those games come April 5-6 before the team heads off to Pittsburg State for one final game against the Gorillas on the 10th.
Over the remainder of the month, the Bison have these series: Ouachita (4/12-13), Henderson State (4/19/20) and Southern Nazarene (4/26-27). There will also be a game against Northeastern State in Tahlequah on the 23rd.
