Javelinas Edge Bison in San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Oklahoma Baptist faced off against Texas A&M-Kingsville Friday afternoon during St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic. Even with TAMUK holding the lead for over 35 minutes of game time, the Bison nearly pulled out a victory at Bill Greehey Arena. However, in the end the Javelinas won 68-62.

Key Leaders
  • Jaedyn Getman post game-highs in points (22) and rebounds (10). That was her second career double-double.
  • Freshman Parker Stevenson was solid again off the bench for OBU with 15 points and four steals.
  • Freshman Catyn Graham notched eight points and made a few shots in the second half as the Bison rallied.
What Went Right
  • OBU battled. The Bison trailed for the majority of this game. However, their effort never wavered, and they claimed a couple fourth-quarter leads.
  • Getman came up big. The sophomore has scored 20+ in back-to-back games for the second time in her career. She was 2-for-2 from three-land and made all four of her free throws.
  • Stevenson provided a major lift off the bench, scoring 15 points. She scored nine of those in a row for OBU in the fourth which helped the team take a 55-54 lead. Through five games, Stevenson is second on the team with 53 points.
  • Graham was big, too. In crucial moments, she hit a pair of threes in the third to help keep OBU close. Then, her third field goal with about five minutes left, gave the Bison a 59-57 advantage.
  • The Bison had a 17-11 fast-break points advantage after coming up with 13 steals. OBU has notched double-digit steals in four straight games. That's only happened once before in the Bo Overton era.
What Went Wrong
  • First-quarter turnovers. The Bison had seven miscues in the first period. That loomed large as TAMUK led 18-10 after 10 minutes of action.
  • Defending the three. The Javelinas brought the 34th-best three-point shooting team in the nation to the court on Friday. And it showed. By halftime, TAMUK had made 6-of-10. By game's end, they made half of their 18 attempts.
  • Tough shooting down the stretch. After Graham's jumper with 5:07 left gave the Bison the lead, OBU's offense stalled. They made 1-of-10 after that which included a few open looks from beyond the three-point line.
On The Horizon
  • Tomorrow at 4 p.m., the Bison will face the host St. Mary's Rattlers to close out their trip.
