Record Number of Bison Land on CSC Academic Team

SHAWNEE – A year after five Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer players earned College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District recognition, the program saw a total of six team members garner the academic accolade for the 2023 season.

Avril Baccam, Asley Baker, Alanna Bloomingdale, Olivia Kenas, Makenzy Morgan and Mia Pendleton were all honored for their efforts in the classroom and on the pitch. For Pendleton, Baker and Bloomingdale, it is the second straight year they've made this list.

To qualify, a student-athlete had to have possessed at least a 3.50 grade point average, been of sophomore standing and have legitimate playing credentials.

Baccam, an elementary education major from Little Elm, Texas, started in all 20 matches and scored a goal in the team's win at Ouachita on Oct. 5. She was slotted throughout the season in the top-10 of the GAC in shots on goal (15).

In defense was Baker, an exercise science major from Yukon. For the third straight year, she started every match (20) and helped the Bison defense record seven clean sheets. Baker also was named an All-GAC First Team member.

One of OBU's primary attackers, Bloomingdale, another exercise science major, had a career senior year. She was an All-GAC First Team selection after tallying five goals and 11 points. Both of those totals were top-five in the conference. The Skiatook, Okla., native was one of three Bison to notch multiple game-winning goals as well.

For Kenas, a midfielder from Wichita, Kansas and biology major, she competed in all 20 matches and finished with two goals. Morgan, a senior from Corinth, Texas, and nursing major, also got playing time in all 20 contests and finished with 15 shots.

Rounding out OBU's honorees was Pendleton, a senior from Choctaw and exercise science major. She had a solid senior year for the Bison, finishing in second in the GAC in shutouts (7) and saves (82). Pendleton wrapped up her career on Bison Hill with 19 clean shots, a top-three mark all-time.

With the help of these players, OBU posted a 9-9-2 overall record, won the GAC regular season title after being picked to finish third, and advanced to the conference's tournament title match for the seventh time in a row.
