Bison Light Up Mustangs

SHAWNEE – Timely three-point shooting in the first half and a solid press defense were just a couple reasons Oklahoma Baptist throttled Midwestern State on Tuesday in a non-conference women's basketball game at the Noble Complex.

The Bison evened their record at 2-2 while the Mustangs dropped to 0-4.

Key Leaders
  • Jaedyn Getman poured in a game-high 20 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
  • Madison Chambers scored 14 points and grabbed seven boards, one off her career-high.
  • Forward Sydney Duncan scored a career-high 12 points off the bench.
  • Freshman guard Parker Stevenson tallied 11 points, four rebounds and four steals.
  • Kennedy Large went 3-for-4 from downtown and tallied nine points. It was the first time in her career that she hit a trio of deep shots in a game.
  • As a team, the Bison made 21-of-27 (77%) from the charity stripe.
What Went Right
  • In the first, there were a trio of three-pointers that really aided the Bison. Large got the first before Getman and Stevenson provided a couple more to help OBU attain a 23-13 lead heading to the second.
  • The Bison also made 50 percent from the field.
  • Second-quarter action was highlighted by an outstanding performance from the free throw line. OBU made 8-of-10 and maintained its lead. By half, it was 38-29 OBU.
  • Stevenson, Duncan and Getman all hit two free throws in the period.
  • Plus, after the first 20 minutes of action, OBU turned nine MSU turnovers into 14 points and held a 16-7 bench-points advantage.
  • The game was blown wide open in the third as the Bison hit a 22-5 run. Faith Wright started the stretch with a three-ball before a free throw by Getman made the tally 60-33 with 3:03 left.
  • In the fourth, freshman Catyn Graham stood out. She scored six points and came up with four steals.
  • By game's end, 11 of the 13 players that reached the court scored for the Bison.
What Went Wrong
  • Fouls. Seven different Bison players tallied multiple fouls. That stat didn't really affect the team though as MSU was just 11-of-18 (61%) from the foul line.
  • Turnovers. OBU committed 21 in the game and it resulted in 17 points for the visitors.
On The Horizon
  • The Bison will travel to San Antonio, Texas for the St. Mary's Thanksgiving Classic. On Friday, Nov. 24, OBU will play Texas A&M-Kingsville (2-3) at 4 p.m.
