Bison Roll OCU, 78-45

SHAWNEE – Freshman Parker Stevenson led all scorers with 19 points while Sierra Copeland registered her first career double-double to help lead Oklahoma Baptist to a 78-45 win over Oklahoma City on Friday at the Noble Complex.

OBU got its first win of the season in the process.

Key Leaders
  • Stevenson's 19 points came on 8-of-10 shooting. Only one other freshman in OBU's D2 history has ever made 80 percent from the field: Jaedyn Getman. Last year, the then-newcomer accomplished that against Southeastern Oklahoma State of Feb. 23, 2023.
  • Copeland's double-double came on 10 points and 11 rebounds. Her rebound mark was a career-high.
  • Getman added 11 points, eight boards and a career-high five assists.
  • Thirteen players reached the court and 11 of them scored. Catyn Graham, Payten Conde, Sydney Duncan and Chloe Poole all scored five for OBU.
  • Freshman Aubrey Marjason also tied for the game lead with 11 rebounds.
What Went Right
  • Team shooting. The Bison made 42.5 percent from the field and 45 percent from three. Both of those marks were season-bests.
  • Forcing turnovers. OBU dialed up 17 steals with six players registering at least two. They turned those turnovers into 33 points.
  • OBU had a solid 19 assists on 31 made field goals. In addition to Getman's five, Stevenson added three while Madison Chambers added three more.
  • Forty-one (41) of the team's 78 points came from the bench. That total bested the bench totals of the first two games against Pittsburg State and Washburn (27).
  • Taking advantage of the situation. The Bison competed against an undermanned OCU squad that played just six players due to other injuries. OBU was impressive in the first half as it hit 54.2 percent from the field and six of 13 (46.1) from three. That helped the hosts build a 48-15 halftime advantage.
What Went Wrong
  • In the second half as the Bison got some role players minutes, there were nine turnovers in the third and fourth quarters. That was four more than in the first half.
On The Horizon
  • On Nov. 21, the Bison host Midwestern State at 7 p.m. Last season, the Bison rallied from a 15-point fourth-quarter deficit and made 30-of-35 from the free throw line to win in Wichita Falls by a 77-73 tally.
