Getman’s Effort Not Enough for Bison

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist met Washburn on Saturday at the Noble Complex. For most of the contest, OBU's shooting mishaps from the previous evening continued, and resulted in a 69-54 loss to conclude the GAC/MIAA Challenge.

Jaedyn Getman proved effective at scoring though with a career-high performance. She registered 27 points, half of the team's total, and most since she secured 23 last year versus Northwestern Oklahoma State.  That tally was also on 10-of-20 shooting for the sophomore.

In the first period, Getman scored all nine points for the Bison. Her last bucket at the 2:31 mark tied the game at 9. Unfortunately, the Ichabods claimed the lead by the end with an 8-0 run. Mackenzie Gamble and Aubree Dewey hit two 3-pointers late to give the visitors a 17-9 advantage.

Getman remained strong in the second getting another basket and two free throws, while Sydney Duncan and Kennedy Large each made baskets. However, the Bison shot 37 percent and could not overcome Washburn's advantage. Defensively, OBU hung tough and allowed 33-percent shooting to WU, but at half, the visitors led 29-17 on a Liz Boyd jumper.

Third-quarter offense was the best for the Bison, so far, this early season. They made 7-of-15 (46.6) and all eight of their freebies. OBU's attack was far more diverse with Getman, Large, Duncan, Madison Chambers, Payten Conde and Parker Stevenson all scoring points.

But despite the solid quarter, the Ichabods were even better. They made a trio of three-pointers and 10-of-14 (71.4) from the field and extended their lead to as many as 19 points. Heading to the fourth, they led 56-40.

For the final quarter, the Bison chipped away at WU's lead. The Bison's fight pulled the scoreboard to within nine, 63-54, at the 2:31 mark after Duncan sank two free throws. But on the next two possessions, Washburn put the nail in the coffin with back-to-back threes.  Those would bring the final margin to 69-54.

Next on the schedule for OBU is a home game with Oklahoma City University on Nov. 17 at 7 p.m.
