SHAWNEE – Madison Chambers scored 19 points on 9-of-13 shooting but it wasn't enough as the rest of the Oklahoma Baptist women's basketball team couldn't compliment their fifth-year senior during a 60-50 loss to Pittsburg State on Friday.
Outside of Chambers, just 10 more shots were made among six players. By game's end, OBU connected at a 33.9 percent rate. The visiting Gorillas weren't much better either, finishing the contest at 36.4 percent.
While the offense didn't click, OBU's defense flied around the court, got seven turnovers and had nine points off turnovers.
The green and gold led for most of the opening half. In the first, newcomer
Parker Stevenson drilled a right-wing three before sophomore
Sydney Duncan sank a freebie. That last point had OBU ahead 10-6. A quarter later,
Jaedyn Getman's bucket boosted the Bison's lead to 15-7 before Duncan swished through a top-of-the-key three. That shot gave OBU its biggest lead, 18-10. However, down the stretch, the Gorillas reeled off an 11-3 run and tied things at 21. Four different players scored including Karenna Gerber who tallied the last three.
After the break, there was not much headway created by either team. Third-quarter action saw a four-point lead for the Bison, 28-24, on a Chambers layup at 6:36. But by the end, Pittsburg State held a 38-35 lead.
In the final period, PSU's squad, with a host of talented guards, pulled away. Destiny Buerge sank back-to-back three-pointers and bumped the visitor's advantage to 49-40. The Bison would only be able to get within 10 points three times after that.
Tomorrow, OBU will face Washburn (0-1) at 6 p.m. The Ichabods lost to Southwestern Oklahoma State 63-58 earlier on Friday.
