RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Oklahoma Baptist freshman
Brae Baker was named the Great American Conference's Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday. The accolade, Baker's first, comes after she helped the Bison pitch shutouts at Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State.
The last time a Bison freshman defender was selected for this honor came on April 1, 2021 when former player Kimmy McKinney was chosen.
In last week's matches against the Crimson Storm and Rangers, Baker helped an OBU back line surrender just four shots on goal in 180 minutes of action. Those efforts helped the green and gold earn its third clean sheets in four matches.
Maybe most noteworthy was Baker's and OBU's efforts at SNU. Coming into that match, the Storm had the top offense in the GAC and the eighth-leading scorer in the nation in Bella Morgas. By match's end, a 3-0 victory, Baker and company had allowed a mere one shot on target.
Baker and the rest of the Bison will return to the pitch on Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. against East Central.
