BETHANY – Oklahoma Baptist scored three second-half goals and got a well-deserved victory over Southern Nazarene on Wednesday in Great American Conference play at Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.
The Bison improved to 4-7-1 overall and 3-2-1 in conference play. Plus, the victory moved OBU into second place in the league with 10 points, one off leader Ouachita.
Key Leaders
What Went Right
- Defensively, the Bison's effort may have been its best all year.
- The back line and goalie Mia Pendleton allowed a single shot attempt on target to SNU.
- For reference, the Storm entered as the GAC leader in shots, goals and points.
- As for OBU's attack, it applied pressure throughout and out-shot SNU 22-6.
- That included a 15-1 shots on target advantage.
- The Bison seemed to out-hustle the hosts as well. Williamson's goal, which turned out to be the game-winner, came after she hustled into the 18 and rebounded a shot previously taken by Swaner.
- Kenas also cleaned up a blocked attempt from Sophia Ziesemer in the 69th minute before Joski capped off the scoring with a penalty kick at 84:38.
What Went Wrong
- Not much. In what has happened a bit too frequently the last two weeks, OBU fouls resulted in opponent free kicks. For SNU, it used a free kick in the 41st minute and nearly scored off the right side after a shot from near midfield by Avery Pyle.
On The Horizon
- Another road match is on deck for the Bison. On Oct. 14, they'll visit Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva.
