PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Bison men's and women's track and field teams charted three top-five finishes, including a top honor at the Wendy's'/Pittsburg State Invitational on Saturday.
Junior Maxamillian Wheeler led all OBU runners with a first-place finish in the mile run. Wheeler crossed the finish line in 4:11.23 to claim his second top individual honor in back-to-back weeks.
It was a personal best for Wheeler, crushing his previous 4:22.57 clocked a season ago.
In the 60m hurdles, Maurice McMullen placed 12th with a time of 8.33, while teammates Aaryn Anderson (8.41 PR) and Jentezen Smith (8.48) finished 15th and 18th.
Other notable placings for the men were Trevor Evans' 1:15.66 in the 600-yard that placed 13th, and Carson Kardokus' 1:54.95 in the 800m that finished 11th. Kardokus' time was personal best.
For the women, sophomore Kaylen King clocked a PR of 1:27.35 in the 600-yard run for fourth overall. Today marks the third consecutive meet King has earned a top-five finish.
Kayla McGruder charted the next best placing, taking fifth in the mile with a PR of 5:02.70. Following McGruder in eighth was Sophia Strange, who crossed in a PR of 5:05.34.
Other notables were Tahlor Brown's 9.02 (10th) in the 60m hurdles and freshman Olivia Tate's 25.12 (11th) in the 200m.
Next up for the Bison is a trip to the Washburn Open next Saturday (Feb. 3) in Topeka, Kan.
