ST. CLOUD, Minn. – Oklahoma Baptist's
Dan Pruitt and
Kade Self were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Preseason All-Central Region Team on Tuesday.
It is the first time since the start of the 2020 campaign that the program had players selected to a preseason award list. During that year,
Eric Carlson, Raul Rizo and Ramon Enriquez earned Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Central Region honors.
Pruitt and Self are among the top hitters returning for the Bison.
A season ago, Pruitt, a first baseman, was the GAC Player of the Year, made two All-America lists and finished second in school history with 24 homers. He also posted a .909 slugging mark, notched a .995 fielding percentage and finished with a .390 batting average, 70 runs scored, 68 runs batted in, 15 doubles, five triples and 17 stolen bases.
Self also attained numerous accolades in 2022. The Shawnee native was a NCBWA Honorable Mention All-America selection and an All-GAC First Team honoree. In 41 games played, Self ranked in the top three of the GAC in batting (.397) and slugging (.769) while collecting 62 hits, 15 doubles, 13 homers and 47 RBI. During a March 13 game against East Central, Self tied the school's single-game record with eight RBI.
In 10 days, Feb. 3, Pruitt, Self and the rest of the Bison will begin their season with a game in Edmond against Emporia State.
