Bison Fight the Storm and Tie, 1-1

BETHANY, Okla. – On Tuesday night, the 3-4-1, 0-2-1 Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm put up a good fight against the 3-5, 2-0 Oklahoma Baptist Bison. With this stiff match, the Bison received their first tie of the season with a 1-1 final score at SNU's Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex.

With the result, the green and gold ran their GAC season record to 2-0-1 while the Storm ran theirs to 0-2-2.

The first half was kickstarted by many shots from both sides. At 5:43, an assist by SNU's sophomore Karla Ramirez resulted in an upper left goal by freshman Fallon Weatherford, pushing the Storm ahead, 1-0. Following SNU's goal, the rest of the half consisted of the Bison working to tie the match.

One notable attempt was a cross by Olivia Kenas at the goal front to Katie Fowler, but the shot was blocked by SNU's freshman goalie Gianna Bonnett.

Later, Krissy Fulton crossed a pass from the left to Alanna Bloomingdale, but the ball just missed Bloomingdale's foot near the right post.

OBU's Makenzy Morgan, Michaela White, Asley Baker, Anna Fulton and Jadynn Daggs also attempted shots, but with the efforts of Bonnett, none touched nylon. So, despite the Bison's efforts, they were unable to tie the match heading into halftime.

The second half primarily took place on the Storm's half of the field with some fired-up Bison keeping their eyes on the goal.

Within the first 11 minutes, five shots were taken by OBU's Morgan, Daggs, Fulton and Kaylee Swaner compared to only one by the hosts. Then finally at 87:40, an assist by Swaner, fed right up the middle of the 18-yard box, was received by Fowler, who slipped the ball by the goalie and knotted up the match.

Though SNU made attempts to break the tie with three more shots, OBU's sophomore goalie Ireland Jeffrey saved all. By the end, the Bison had racked up 25 shots against the Storm's 19, but the scoreboard remained 1-1.

With the result, SNU, a team already with more wins this year (3) than last (1), stopped OBU's 11-match winning streak in the series.

OBU returns home on Thursday at 5 p.m. with a match against East Central.
