SHAWNEE – Freshman Morgan Becker shot one-over 72 in the first round of play at the OBU Invitational to pace her squad and claim first among all competition on Monday.
Oklahoma Baptist sits in second after posting a 315 (+27), trailing Redlands Community College, who finished two strokes better at 313 (+25).
Becker's 72 (+1) ties the lowest round of any Bison this season. Josie Patterson shot a 73 (+1) in round one of the Central Region Fall Preview on September 9. The freshman sunk a team-best three birdies and ranks in a tie for first in Par-3 (3.0) and Par 4 stroke average (4.0) in the tournament.
Patterson followed the Southlake, Texas native in seventh. Patterson shot a seven-over 79 as her inaugural round included two birdies. Lindyn Ross' 80 (+8) was good for a tie at 10th to round out the Bison in the top-10.
Freshman Sam Lehr, competing as an individual, shot a 10-over 82, one stroke higher than her season best.
Valentina Nunez-Butzonitch and Rylei Gunter turned in a matching round of 83 (+11) to place in a tie for 16th, while Karlee Holcomb finished a stroke behind for a tie at 18th.
Wrapping up OBU's first day participants was Rylie Spaulding, who shot 102 (+30) to place in a tie for 27th.
Play at the OBU Invitational will conclude tomorrow with the final round. Competition is set to begin at 9 a.m. at the Shawnee Country Club.
