SHAWNEE – The smooth-shooting, get-to-the-lane
Burke Putnam, OBU's leading scorer and the GAC's Newcomer of the Year, gave Bison fans a performance to remember in the team's last home game, a Feb. 19, 2022 contest against Southern Arkansas.
When the clock struck 0:00, Putnam had scored 38 points, hit almost 50 percent from the field and made 12-of-13 at the foul line. His point output was the second-highest single-game total since OBU joined NCAA D2 in 2015-16.
Even more impressive was Putnam's 38 points were half of the team total in the 76-72 win.
During the tightly-contested game, which featured seven ties and 12 lead changes, Putnam put the Bison ahead for good with about three minutes left when he hit two freebies, moving the scoreboard to 70-69.
Also in the second half, Putnam posterized arguably the GAC's best interior player, Devante Brooks, on a one-handed slam with 7:33 left.
