Pair of Bison Land on ABCA All-Region Team

SHAWNEE – The American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-Region Teams were announced Wednesday morning and Oklahoma Baptist players Dan Pruitt and Kade Self were among the honorees from the Central Region.

Each were named to the first team which pushes them into All-America consideration. Those awards will be announced on Friday, June 3.

Pruitt was a stalwart at first base this season.  He started all 49 games, batted .390, tied a school record with 24 runs and tallied a .909 slugging mark. That latter total was the highest by a Bison player in the D2 era.

He ranked consistently among the NCAA's leaders in numerous categories. By season's end, Pruitt was tied for fifth in the country in homers, second in slugging, seventh in total bases (170) and 28th in RBI (68).

For Self, who earned playing time as designated hitter and in right field, he posted team-bests in batting average (.397) and doubles (15), along with 13 homers and 47 RBI. Self's home run count and batting average were both top-ten marks in the Great American Conference as well.

He also scored 39 runs and accumulated 120 total bases.

With the help of Pruitt and Self, the Bison posted a 27-22 record and broke the program's previous single-season home run record with 112 bombs during the year.

The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 25 countries.
