SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball program added its third signee and first portal transfer as head coach
Jason Eaker announced the signing of guard Ricky Brown.
Brown (6-2, 180) joins OBU after playing the last two seasons at Valdosta State. He was the teammate of former Bison
Burke Putnam in 2020-2021. Brown has three years of eligibility remaining.
This past season, Brown scored 197 points – over half of his career total - and dished out 15 of his 22 career assists while getting 11 of his 16 career steals. He averaged 7.3 ppg on 46.1 percent shooting while ranking second on the team in three-point makes (43).
Brown made 40.6 percent of his attempts from deep, which ranked No. 1 on the team and charted four games with at least five triples made. He knocked down a career-high seven against Alabama Huntsville and went a perfect 5-5 from downtown versus Lee.
Brown played in 48 career games, including nine starts, with the Blazers and tallied 269 career points with 59 career three-pointers. He additionally made 18-23 (78.2%) from the free-throw line in his career at Valdosta.
"It's no secret how much the state of Georgia has meant to our program these last four seasons," Eaker said. "The real key has been the young men individually and their families who have made it happen through a tremendous amount of hard work, teamwork, talent, competitiveness, and dedication. Ricky not only comes from a great family but has all the qualities we were looking for as we build this next era of Bison Basketball. He's an outstanding player already, but what excites our staff is his character and desire to improve. His two years of experience at the Division II level, along with three years of eligibility remaining, was a big factor in us pursuing him so aggressively. We expect Ricky to impact us immediately."
