EDMOND, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist's 2022 team etched its name in the record book on Tuesday after a 12-6 victory over Central Oklahoma at Wendell Simmons Field.
OBU hit three homers on the day, moving its season total to 94. That broke the school's previous single-season record of 91, set during the 2019 campaign. An eighth-inning blast from
Alex Schroeder secured the updated mark for the green and gold.
Before that though, UCO had gotten ahead 3-0. The hosts notched a single run in the first before two more in the second. In the latter frame, Kaleb Glass drove in a run before Trevor Stevens scored via error from the infield.
It would be the only time UCO had the lead as it turned out.
After the second, the Bison quickly turned things around in the third.
Cade Kissel notched the team's first run following a Bronchos error. Later,
Ramon Gomez drove in two with a single through the right side. That hit pushed
Dan Pruitt and
Jose Parga across home and tied the game at 3-3.
The squads were later tied at 4-4 before Parga pushed the Bison ahead for good.
In the sixth, the shortstop singled through the right side and sent Kissel home. That made the tally 5-4. Three more runs came across for OBU as Pruitt, Schroeder and
Kade Self each registered RBIs.
Following the big sixth frame by OBU, the team got three outstanding innings on the mound from
Nolan Feazle. He helped retire the side in the sixth, seventh and eighth frames allowing the Bison to continue to pull away.
Eighth-inning action brought the record-setting homer from Schroeder, his 18th bomb of the year, as well as a long ball from Self.
Isiah Lissade also added a home run in the game.
Next on the schedule is a three-game conference road trip to Arkansas-Monticello starting on April 22 at 2 p.m.
