MONTICELLO, Ark. – Arkansas-Monticello scored seven runs in the first and limited Oklahoma Baptist to a season-low two hits during an 11-1 win on Friday afternoon in Great American Conference play at Weevils Field.
UAM improved to 19-20 and 14-14 in the GAC while OBU dipped to 21-19 and 14-14 in league play.
On the mound, Derek Potts kept the Bison bats in check. He tossed seven frames, struck out eight and induced nine flyouts.
The Weevils bats were hot from the start as they notched five hits en route to a 7-0 advantage. With bases loaded and one out, Grant Shepherd doubled to left and plated two. Following an infield error that scored UAM's third run, three-straight RBI singles from David Reyna, Deshaun Cordova and Grant Jeffers followed.
The host's seventh run was then delivered by Chase Cripps who registered a sacrifice fly RBI.
The green and gold could not find a big offensive inning after that, unlike numerous occasions earlier this year.
OBU's strongest frame was the third.
Dan Pruitt and
Alex Schroeder each singled, the latter of which drove in
Jose Parga. After that, though, the Bison placed just one on the base paths. That came in the sixth when
Kade Self was walked.
Tomorrow, the two teams will meet again at noon for a doubleheader.
