SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist (25-18, 13-11 GAC) looks to extend their four-game winning streak in a midweek doubleheader against Texas Woman's University on Wednesday afternoon. The twin bill is set for a 3 p.m. start time at Diane Baker Field on the campus of TWU.
Tomorrow will be the third all-time meeting with the Pioneers, with TWU holding a 2-0 series lead. The two first met in 1999 before competing for the second time in 2004.
The Bison are coming off their second sweep and fourth conference series win last weekend, besting Northwestern Oklahoma State 7-2, 5-0, and 7-1.
Pitcher Kayleigh Jones struck out 24 batters in two appearances, including a career-high 13 on Friday, while Aspen Younce tallied 16 in 9.0 innings of action. Younce faced 31 batters and didn't surrender a single run.
Offensively, sophomore Reagan Ford registered a hit in all five games last week. Ford's best outing came against the NWOSU on Saturday when she went 2-2, brought in two batters, and stole a career-high three bases. Ford is now hitting a team-best .322, including a .615 in the last five contests.
The Bison remain atop the national leaderboards in strikeouts with 369, which is the most since OBU joined Division II.
SCOUTING THE PIONEERS
Texas Women's enters Wednesday with a 9-26 overall record, including a 4-20 mark in the Lone Star Conference. The Pioneers have lost 10 straight, most recently to the hands of West Texas A&M on Sunday.
TWU is batting .230, led by freshman Lil Wilson's .282. Freshman Nya Brown leads the team in hits (30) and is tied with Missy Wise for the most RBIs (13) on the squad. Additionally, Brown has stolen 23 bases, ranking seventh in the LSC.
The team's leader in home runs, Paige Tamayo, has smacked three over and ranks second in hits (21) thi season.
In the circle, sophomore Jules Malis has 51 strikeouts with a 5.44 ERA in 21 appearances. Time at the dish has split between two others as well, Jalee McDonald and Kelsie Briggs. McDonald has a team-best 3.45 ERA with 32 strikeouts, while Briggs is tied for the most wins (4).
