DENTON, Texas – The men's and women's 4x400 relay teams claimed victories to lead a host of Oklahoma Baptist top finishes at the North Texas Classic on Saturday.
The women's relay squad of Addison Brooks, Tizhane Brooks, Mary McKey, and Taylor James crossed the finish line in 3:53.91 to take top honors, while the men's team finished with a time of 3:18.98. The men's relay team included Sayvon Milton, Jax Holland, Haftom Foutz, and Shirvante Knauls.
In the 4x100, the women's relay team of Elisabeth Jones, Dawnnae Chatman, Tahlor Brown, and Mary McKey finished second overall in 47.25. In the men's race, the foursome of Mahcoe Smith, Jax Holland, Jai Moore, and Shirvante Knauls placed third with a time of 41.11.
Freshman Marquez Cyrus and junior Matthew Higdon earned the highest finishes for OBU in the field events, placing fourth in the high jump and hammer throw. Cyrus leaped 6-0.75 (1.85) while Higdon posted a mark of 135-11 (41.42).
In the women's discus, Jade Byrd's 141-10 (43.24) toss earned fifth overall.
OBU claimed a pair of victories in the individual running events, courtesy of Taylor James and Carson Kardokus. James took first in the 400m with a time of 56.56, while Kardokus set a PR in his 4:02.43 finish in the 1500m. Additionally, Emma Downing placed third in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:48.98
In the men's 400m, Shirvante Knauls claimed third (48.28) while and Sayvon Milton followed in fourth (48.37).
Jentezen Smith placed second in the men's 400m hurdles with a time of 55.23, while Mary McKey finished third on the women's side in 1:02.76.
Senior Mahcoe Smith wraps up the notables with a 10.51 NCAA Division II provisional time in the 100m. Smith placed eighth overall in the event.
OBU returns to Oklahoma this week for a two-day event at the Sooner Invitational, starting Friday, April 15.
