SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist will make a quick drive over to Bethany to play a single game against Southern Nazarene on March 8 at 2 p.m. In series history, which has been very competitive, SNU leads the head-to-head matchup with a 21-18-2 record. The remaining two games of the series will take place in Shawnee on April 5.
The Bison are 12-7 this year which includes a 4-2 GAC mark. In fact, OBU is just a few plays away from being a perfect 6-0 in league play. Over the weekend, the green and gold lost two of three at Southwestern Oklahoma State but were on the doorstep of earning another sweep.
Nine days ago, OBU won all three at Ouachita.
Coming into tomorrow's doubleheader against the Crimson Storm, the Bison have been led offensively by
Samantha Campos,
Jocee Sparks and
Adi Reese.
Campos has a team-best batting average of .353 while Sparks has produced the most homers (4) and RBI (17) on the roster. For Reece, she's on a current seven-game hitting streak while totaling a team-high 15 runs scored with four doubles. As a team, the Bison have tallied 102 runs which is a top-50 mark in the country. Plus, its 17 homers are in the top-25 in Division II.
In the circle, OBU has struck out 158 batters through 19 games this season. The team's current NCAA total of 3.25 strikeouts-to-walk ration is good for 27th in the country.
Kayleigh Jones leads the staff with 92 strikeouts, which currently slots her in the top-six in the nation. Additionally,
Aspen Younce has added 56 Ks to the team total.
For SNU, it has posted a 5-15 record to start the season. Most recently, the Storm have lost four of six in three-game GAC series against Henderson and Southeastern Oklahoma State.
In the batter's box, the Storm have relied on several players to start the year. Liana Heshiki has a team-high 24 hits with a .369 average while Caitlyn Curlee, Natalie Jones and Hailie Fellers have each driven in 12 runs and bat over .315. For Curlee, she has hit four of the team's 11 homers.
Additionally, Emma Swearingen has totaled a .306 average in 19 games played.
The pitching efforts for SNU have been inconsistent so far. Teams are batting .300 against the Storm staff which boasts a 5.06 ERA. Southern Nazarene has gone to Jennifer Romero-Iverson most in the circle. She has started 12 times, made 17 appearances, posted a 3-7 record, and registered a 4.38 ERA and 51 strikeouts.
After her, Chelsea Vandiver has played in 12 contests, tossed 40.2 innings, and posted a 5.16 earned-run average.
