Bison to Host Savage Storm in Weekend GAC Series

SHAWNEE – After spending last weekend in Arkansas, Oklahoma Baptist returns home for a three-game series with Southeastern Oklahoma State on Friday at Bison Softball Park. Game one will be played on Friday at 4:00 p.m., followed by a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.

Fans will be able to watch all games on OBUBison.com, accompanied by the play-by-play commentary of Todd Miller.

Friday will be the 18th all-time meeting between the two ball clubs, with SEOSU holding an 11-6 overall lead over the home team.

The Bison are 19-16 following their series with GAC foe Arkansas Tech, where they dropped two of three games. OBU's 7-9 record against league opponents is sixth in the conference standings.

This season, OBU holds the league's third-best ERA at 3.82. Pitcher Kayleigh Jones has a 2.65 ERA in the circle and has tallied 189 of the team's 292 strikeouts. Jones is on pace to break the all-time single-season school record of 210 strikeouts, set by Destini Anderson in 1998. In her career, Jones totals 336, which is fourth in Bison history. Apart from leading the GAC in the same category, Jones ranks No. 1 in Division II. Furthermore, she has the most wins in the conference at 12 and is tied at the top for saves (3).

Jocee Sparks' eight home runs and 30 RBIs are fourth in the conference, while Samantha Campos leads the team in batting average (.337). Campos'  34 hits rank No. 1 on the team, while she has caught eight stealing from the catching position.

Adi Reese has three triples thus far, tied for first in the GAC, while Sammie Greene's 16 stolen bases lead the conference.

SCOUTING THE SAVAGE STORM

Southeastern Oklahoma State enters the weekend with an 18-18 overall record, including a 9-8 conference mark. SEOSU sits one spot above the Bison at No. 5 in the GAC standings. 

The Savage Storm have lost four straight, most recently at the hands of Southern Arkansas last weekend. The Savage Storm were swept, as the Muleriders scored 19 runs to Southeastern's five in the series.

As a squad, SEOSU has the second-most hits (260) and stolen bases (42) in the league. The opposition is led in the batter's box by Peyton Streetman, one of three hitting over .300, who also has a team-best 39 hits. 

Junior Cheyenne Mahy is pulling double-duty, batting .327 and drawing 14 starts in the circle this season. Mahy is second on the team in RBIs (23) and has struck out 82 batters. Alexis Lamber rounds out the .300 batters, hitting .318 in 66 at-bats.

Sophomore Amberlyn Walsworth has drawn 21 starts in the circle to lead Southeastern, recording 121 strikeouts with a 4.91 ERA. Walsworth's strikeouts total ranks No. 21 in the country, while her nine wins are tied for third in the GAC.
