SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist softball team returns to action, tomorrow, following a 3-1 run in Arkadelphia for a three-day stretch at the Lubbock Christian Invitational. The Bison will face off with five teams: Lubbock Christian, Colorado Christian University, Colorado School of Mines, Fort Lewis College, and the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
The Bison will take on LCU tomorrow at 5 p.m., followed by games with CCU and Colorado School of Mines on Friday. OBU will wrap up the trip with back-to-back contests against Fort Lewis and Colorado Springs on Saturday.
After dropping the season opener, the Bison rebounded to win three consecutive games over Emporia State, Southwest Baptist, and Northeastern State.
GAC Pitcher of the Week, Kayleigh Jones, shined in in each of her appearances. The junior struck out 26 batters, including collecting a career-high of 12 against Cameron and Northeastern State. Pitching companion Aspen Younce fared well, too, going 2-0 on the week with 17 strikeouts.
Freshman Sammie Greene led the Bison lineup with five hits, five RBIs, and one home run. Greene's best game came against Southwest Baptist, where she went yard and brought in four to help OBU run-rule the Bearcats 8-0.
Reagan Ford went 3-6, batting .500, and brought in a runner last week. Mia Moddelmog and Sheyanne Sandoval played pivotal roles in last week's near-perfect run, totaling three RBIs and a home run a piece.
A total of four home runs were hit last week, including a game-sealing bomb by Stephanie McDonald in her only at-bat against Southwest Baptist.
Lubbock Christian enters Thursday 2-2, following a two-win showing at the Gulf Shores Invitational. Last season, the Chaparrals went 29-17 (17-13 LSC).
Colorado Christian makes their way to Lubbock with a 4-0 record, beating opponents at the South Central Region Crossover by a four-run margin or more. Four Cougars are batting .462 or more, led by Kenzie Middleton who has 10 RBIs.
Colorado School of Mines comes in 0-4 after a stint at the Arkansas Tech Winter Invitational, while the tourney will be the first appearance for Fort Lewis this season.
The weekend wraps up with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs, who are 1-1 after starting their season with a doubleheader with Cal Poly Humboldt.
