PITTSBURG, Kan. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field team made their 2022 meet debut at the Pittsburg State Rumble in the Jungle Invitational on Friday, finishing seventh and sixth overall.
Four women runners placed within the top five in their respective events while the women's 4x400 relay team placed second, completing the event in 3:53.20. On that team was Addison Brooks, Mary McKey, Dawnnae Chatman and Taylor James.
Caitlin Mannon led the Bison with a fifth place finish in the weighted throw for the field events, hurling the weight 14.54m. After finishing ninth in the weight throw, Jade Byrd turned around to place sixth in the shot put with a throw of 12.02m.
Anisha Henderson added a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.41m, while Emily Julian finished seventh in the pole vault (3.53m).
Senior Dawnnae Chatman finished third in the 200m dash with a blazing time of 25.97, while Tahlor Brown came in seventh with a time of 26.52. Freshman Zoee Weaver collected a third-place finish, completing the 600-yard dash in 1:28.16. Rounding out the notables was Addison Brooks, who placed fifth in the 800m dash with a time of 2:14.95.
In the men's action, sophomore Alexander Schovanec earned the highest placing of the day in the field events, finishing sixth in the shot put with a throw of 14.24m. Junior Zane Nutter earned fifth in the high jump with a leap of 1.90m, while Isaiah Willis finished sixth in the long jump (6.81m).
Aaryn Anderson completed the 60m hurdles in 8.43 seconds, suitable for a sixth-place finish, while Mahcoe Smith added a sixth-place tally in the 60m dash (6.87 sec).
Oklahoma Baptist travels to the Washburn Open on Jan. 28 for their next competition.
