BETHANY, Okla. – High-caliber offense led the day for the Oklahoma Baptist baseball team, scoring 37 runs over the course of Saturday's doubleheader. The Bison claimed their seventh series of the season as they throttled the Crimson Storm in game one, 29-5, before falling 10-8 in the second game of the afternoon.
Â
The Bison set a new team record when they scored 29 runs in the first game of the afternoon. The previous record of 27 runs was recorded in 1971 when the Bison defeated Minnesota State.Â
Â
OBU got the historic game started with a four run second inning.
Colin Prince smashed a three-run home run and
Kade Self scored on a wild pitch.Â
Â
In the third inning the Bison put up 10 runs all before recording a single out.
Hector Ruvalcaba got the fun started as he posted an RBI single to center field.
Ramon Enriquez then followed Ruvalcaba's RBI single with one of his own. These back-to-back RBI singles gave OBU a 6-2 lead. On the next at bat,
Kevin Saenz blasted a grand slam out of left field to extend the lead to 10-2. After a quick Crimson Storm pitching change, the Bison picked up where they left off as Prince and Self posted back-to-back home runs.
Cliff Pradd then got on base with a single and
Walker Keller batted him in with the fourth home run of the inning, giving the Bison a 14-2 lead. SNU was able to stop the hemorrhaging with a second pitching change in the same inning as Zach Birkle was able to record three straight outs.Â
Â
After a quiet fourth and fifth inning, OBU posted its second double-digit-run inning in the top of the sixth. This time the Bison scored 11 runs. Ruvalcaba was walked in to record the first run of the inning. Pradd then posted the next two runs with a two-RBI single. Keller,
Kaimana Bartolome, and Cook then scored three more home runs. This offensive barrage gave OBU a 25-4 lead.
Â
OBU set the new record in the top of the seventh with four final runs.
Logan Coe posted the ninth Bison home run of the game when he blasted a three-run home run out of center field. Prince then sealed 29-5 victory with an RBI single to center field.Â
Â
In the final game of the series/doubleheader, SNU was able to earn a 10-8 win. However, the Bison chalked up five more home runs which brought their two-game total to 14.Â
Â
There were plenty of offensive stars for the Bison in the day's doubleheader, but Prince had a stellar day as he posted three homeruns and six RBIs over the course of the two games.
Â
Up next, OBU will welcome Pittsburg State on Tuesday, May 4 for its final non-conference matchup of the season. First pitch of the contest is set for 1 p.m.
