Still Dancing! Bison Selected to Second Straight NCAA Tournament

SHAWNEE – For the second consecutive season, the Oklahoma Baptist men's basketball team is dancing as they were selected to their second straight NCAA Tournament, earning an at-large bid in the South Central Region from the national selection committee on Sunday night.

The Bison will take on GAC Tournament Champion and East Division winner Arkansas-Monticello in the first round of the tournament at 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 13.

OBU set their goal to return to where they left off a season ago as OBU earned an at-large big last season in the Central Region and were set to take on Northwest Missouri State before COVID-19 abruptly ended the season.

OBU enters the 2021 Tournament with a 15-5 overall record after winning the GAC Western Division Championship. The Bison won 14 of their final 16 games, but dropped a heartbreaker in the GAC semifinals to Southern Arkansas.

The Bison felt the stress since Friday evening, but the committee pushed the Bison through on an impressive resume, strength of schedule, and RPI throughout the season.

West Texas A&M is the top seed in the South Central Region, while Lubbock Christian is the second seed and host. All games will be inside the Rip Griffin Center on the campus of Lubbock Christian.

The tournament will tip off on Saturday, March 13 with OBU and UAM, as well as No. 4 Southern Arkansas taking on No. 5 Dallas Baptist. Winners will move on to the semifinals on Sunday, March 14, with the South Central Region Championship set for Tuesday, March 16.

The NCAA Elite Eight, Final Four, and National Championship Game will begin on March 24 at the Ford Center in Evansville, Indiana.

Ticket information, COVID protocols, and other pertinent information will become available early in the week. Visit OBUBison.com, as well as @OBU_Athletics on Twitter, for the latest details.
