SHAWNEE – A red-hot offense led the way as the Oklahoma Baptist women's soccer team secured its first win in Great American Conference play, dominating Southern Nazarene, 5-0, Friday night at the OBU Soccer Complex. Â
Â
The Bison had multiple cancellations and weather delays since their last outing on Feb. 5, but it looked as if they hadn't missed a beat. OBU posted 27 total shots with 14 landing on goal.
Kaylee Swaner had her best performance so far this season with six shots, including four on goal. She also led the Bison in overall scoring with two of the five goals scored.
Â
The Bison got off to a slow start for the first 22 minutes as Southern Nazarene was able to breach the Bison defense and post three consecutive shots on goal. Fortunately for OBU, goalie
Mia Pendleton was locked in and met each shot to collect her first three saves of the game.
Â
Finally, at the 22:55 minute mark, Swaner broke through and got the Bison on the board. For the final 22 minutes OBU came alive in all phases, keeping the ball in the offensive zone, scoring the second goal of the game and only allowing the Crimson Storm to test Pendleton one last time before halftime.
Â
In the second period, OBU pushed down the accelerator and never looked back, posting 16 of their 27 shots and scorign three more goals. Pendleton only had to face three other shots and finished the game with seven total saves.
Â
Hannah Evans,
Katie Fowler, and
Alanna Bloomingdale each posted a goal apiece for the Bison.
Â
Up next, the OBU will hit the road for the first time this season, traveling to Ada to take on East Central on Saturday, March 6. Kickoff is set for 11 a.m.
