SHAWNEE –
Kaimana Bartolome went 4-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs as the potent Bison offense overwhelmed Ouachita Baptist, 16-5, in the final game of the teams' opening Great American Conference series at Bobby Cox Field at Ford Park Saturday.
After clinching the series win Friday night in a relatively quiet 2-1 win, the OBU offense was firing on all cylinders in Saturday's finale.
The Bison out-hit the visitors 13-7 as nine different players scored en route to the run-rule victory.
Due to forecasted inclement weather, first pitch was moved up to 11 a.m., resulting in a slow start that saw the teams trade runs in the second and third innings. The Bison got on track in the fourth, scoring five runs on a two-run single from Bartolome, and RBIs from
Ramon Enriquez and
Eric Carlson.
Cade Kissel reached on a fielder's choice, allowing Enriquez to score and stake OBU to an 8-3 lead.
After Ouachita answered with two runs in the bottom of the fourth, the Bison tacked on two of their own in the fifth before erupting for five more runs in the top of the sixth to make it 15-5.
Kase Warner hit an RBI single to drive in Carlson before Bartolome uncorked a grand slam to left field to make it 15-5.
OBU added an additional run in the eighth on an RBI double from Kissel.
Caleb Bly got the start for the Bison, going 3.1 innings and giving up five runs on six hits.
Jesus Chavez,
Tyler Condie, and
Tyler Frank combined to surrender just one hit in 3.2 shutout innings in relief.
The Bison were the visiting team in the series as the games were moved from Arkadelphia to Shawnee due to weather.
OBU heads to Weatherford for a three-game series with Southwestern Oklahoma State beginning Friday, March 5.
