Bison Take Series with Tigers

SHAWNEE – The Oklahoma Baptist baseball team took the series against Ouachita Baptist after splitting a double header at home. OBU took game one 13-9 but fell in game two 5-0. The Bison however, still got the series win having beaten the Tigers 11-1 in the series opener.

In game one, Joey Pledger turned in a season high performance having gone 3-3 with three runs and batting in four runners. This gave Pledger five runs and RBIs over the course of the series. He now is second on the team in batting average (.387), runs (23), hits (29), RBIs (22), and homeruns (5).

Hector Ruvalcaba, Kaimana Bartolome, and Cliff Pradd also had strong outings in game one with all of them putting up multiple RBIs each. Colin Prince tied Pledger's run total with three runs of his own.

The scoring for the Bison got started right away in the first when Bartolome batted in Ramon Gomez and Ramon Enriquez. Ruvalcaba then batted in Bartolome. In the bottom of the second Pledger put the first of three Bison homeruns.

Over the next two innings, the Bison added three more runs to their total which gave them a 9-5 advantage.

In the fifth, Prince posted the second of three homeruns and Pradd put up the final homerun which gave OBU the game sealing 13th run.

In game two, the Tigers got off to a fast start and the Bison offense was not able to match the arm of Brandon Matros.

OBU will close out the week's action on Tuesday, March 10 when the Bison head to Weatherford to take on Southwestern Oklahoma State. First pitch of the contest is set for 2 p.m.
