Softball Finally Opens Home Slate Against Henderson

SHAWNEE - After playing the first 16 games of the 2020 season on the road, the Oklahoma Baptist softball team will open their home slate at Bison Park as they welcome Henderson State in for a four game series beginning on Friday afternoon.

The Bison and Reddies will square off on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. with a doubleheader before concluding the series on Saturday with a doubleheader beginning at 12 p.m.

OBU is fresh off their first ever four game sweep in conference play since joining the GAC, rolling past Northwestern Oklahoma State in Alva. The Bison scored 10 or more runs in all three contests.

OBU is 8-8 overall and 4-0 in the GAC. The Bison are winners of eight of their last 11.

A trio of hitters were huge at the play including reigning GAC Player of the Week, Cheyenne Demaree.

Demaree put together an outstanding weekend, going 9 of 12 (.750) from the plate including two doubles, a home run, and 11 RBI. The senior from Pryor, Oklahoma rose her average from .172 to .341 during the four game series.

Demaree had a pair of 3-for-3 games in game one and game four. She had a four RBI game in game three and a pair of three RBI games in game two and game four. Demaree also scored four runs throughout the weekend.

Emily Richardson also had a big weekend, driving in eight runs last weekend to go with a pair of home runs. Jadyn James also had a pair of home runs during the weekend and drove in six.

Katylyn Marsh leads OBU with a .460 average including four doubles, a homer, and 12 RBI while James is hitting .431 with three home runs and 13 RBI. Kylie Kawamura is up to .344 with four doubles, 12 RBI, and 14 runs scored while Demaree leads the team with 19 RBI. Shelby Savage leads the team in runs scored with 15.

Katie Long picked up two wins and a save last weekend to move to 3-2 on the year with a 3.04 ERA in 46.0 innings pitched. Aspen Younce also snagged a pair of wins to move to 5-4 overall with a 5.30 ERA.

Henderson State comes in at 6-10 overall and 2-2 in the GAC after splitting with Arkansas Tech in Russellville. Ashlyn Taylor leads the team with a .333 average to go with three doubles and six RBI while Kaitlyn O'Quinn is at .313 with two triples and five RBI. Abbie Moore and Czoey White both just get over the .300 mark, but Henderson as a whole is only hitting .241 as a team.
