Baseball Falls to Bronchos in Weekday Matchup

SHAWNEE — The Oklahoma Baptist baseball team took a tough loss to the University of Central Oklahoma in a Tuesday afternoon matchup, 14-9. The Bison offense came out firing, taking 9-2 lead going into the fifth inning. Unfortunately for the Bison, the Bronchos' offense came alive, scoring 12 unanswered runs.

Four Bison put up two RBIs each, and seven Bison got on the scoreboard. Ramon Gomez and Ramon Enriquez led the team with two runs apiece. Kaimana Bartolome, Colin Prince, Cade Kissel, and Joey Pledger all posted two RBIs. Bartolome now has 30 RBIs on the season. Gomez, Bartolome, and Kissel all posted a double, while Hector Ruvalcaba put up a triple.

OBU got out to a fast start, taking an 8-0 lead after plating seven runs in the bottom of the third. Pradd, Gomez, and Enriquez were all walked on. Bartolome got the first of the seven runs rolling when he hit an RBI sacrifice fly to center field sending Pradd home to make it a 2-0 game. After a Bronchos pitching change, Ruvalcaba was hit by a pitch, loading the bases once more. Prince then singled up the middle sending Enriquez and Gomez home. Kissel then followed Prince's hit with a double, batting in Prince and Ruvalcaba. Pledger capped off the inning with a solo home run and gave the Bison a 8-0 lead.

The Bronchos were able to get on the board posting two runs in the top of the fourth. Enriquez answered back with a solo home run and extended the lead to 9-2. Unfortunately for the Bison the Bronchos came alive and put up 12 unanswered runs. UCO's bullpen was able to bring the Bison offense to a hault and did not allow another run to score.

The Bison will look to bounce back as they travel to Arkadelphia, Arkansas, for the second time this month and will take on Henderson State in a Great American Conference matchup. First pitch of the series is set for Friday, Feb. 28 at 6 p.m.
