OBU Ranked Second in GAC Preseason Poll

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Oklahoma Baptist University baseball team was picked second in the 2020 preseason Great American Conference poll. OBU received 106 overall points while also tallying up two of the 12 first place votes. OBU is coming off its best season in NCAA Division II, having won the GAC tournament and making it to the final game of the NCAA Central Regional. The Bison went 35-21 overall in 2019, winning 14 of 16 to close out the season, falling only to defending national champion Augustana on their home field in the Central Regional.

The Bison enter their first season under head coach Chris Cox, who replaces his father, and OBU Hall of Famer, Bobby Cox, who retired following the 2019 season after 35 at the helm of the OBU baseball program.

Just ahead of OBU in the standings was the University of Arkansas at Monticello, which received a total of 120 points and 10 of the 12 first place votes. Southern Arkansas came in third with a total of 101 points and Arkansas Tech rounded out the top four of the preseason poll with 96. Harding, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Henderson State, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Ouachita Baptist, East Central, and Southern Nazarene finish out the preseason coaches' standings.

The Bison will look to continue the momentum heading into 2020 with 14 returners including All-American catcher Ramon Enriquez. OBU is set to open 2020 at home with a three-game series against Missouri Western State. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. on Friday, January 31.
