SHAWNEE – The OBU men's soccer team look to take on Dallas Baptist and Lubbock Christian in a two-match homestand this week. Oklahoma Baptist first takes on DBU at 5 p.m. on Thursday before facing LCU on Saturday at 1 p.m.
This is the first time OBU has faced either the Patriots since joining NCAA Division II, and the first time to ever take on the Chaps.
The Bison come into its home opener 1-1 having beaten Southwest Baptist in overtime and being just barely edged out by Oklahoma Christian in double-overtime.
The Bison's offense has come out strong scoring a total of four goals over the first weekend of play, off the feet of Bruno Feirrera,
David Estrada,
Peterson Costa, and
Alejandro Castillo. Castillo leads all Bison with three points this season after also providing an assist against SBU.
Defensively,
Parker Lawter has played the majority of minutes in goal, though he has split time with
Elias Diaz. The net-minding duo has a .667 save percentage and 1.79 goals-against average this season.
OBU will be without the services of
Felipe Robertson for the match against DBU due to the midfielder earning two yellow cards against Oklahoma Christian last Saturday.
DBU enters Thursday's match at 0-1 after dropping a tight one to Dixie State on Sunday. Abraham Garcia and Garrett Morgan both lead the team with three shots. Tristen Olvera took the loss in goal, recording three saves against on goal allowed.
The Chaps are 2-0 on the season and will look to be 3-0 ahead of Saturday's meeting after a meeting with Southern Nazarene on Thursday night. Tariq Bakkali leads LCU with two goals, both against Colorado-Colorado Springs in a 3-1 win. Braxton Thorne has played every minute in goal, boasting a .50 GAA and .800 save percentage.
