ENID, Okla. – Starting pitcher
AJ Merkel turned in a complete game, scattering seven hits, as the fifth-seeded OBU baseball team knocked off No. 2 seed Southern Arkansas in the opening round of the 2019 Great American Conference Tournament Saturday.
Â
Merkel picked up his sixth win of season in the Bison's most important game to date, striking out six Muleriders while surrendering just two runs in the victory.
Â
Jake Gozzo,
PJ Harris, and
Ramon Enriquez, named to the All-GAC First Team earlier in the day, did the damage for OBU at the plate, combining to drive in six of the Bison's eight runs on the afternoon.
Â
SAU took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second, but OBU took control of the game in the top of the third, scoring three runs on an RBI single from Gozzo and a two-run double by Enriquez.
The Bison will take on the winner tonight's matchup between No. 3 Arkansas Tech and No. 4 SWOSU at 7:30 p.m. tomorrow at the David Allen Memorial Ballpark. Todd Miller, the Voice of the Bison, will have the call exclusively at OBUBison.com/Watch.
