ENID, Okla. – After having play suspended while leading 4-1 in the fourth inning at the 2019 Great American Conference Tournament Sunday night, fifth-seeded OBU was able to overcome the schedule change to finish off No. 3 seed Arkansas Tech, 8-5, on Monday afternoon.
Â
The potent Bison offense continued its late season power surge with three home runs.
Eric Carlson led OBU with two RBIs, going 2-4 at the plate, including a homer.
Garrett McKee also went 2-3 for the Bison, driving in one, while
Jake Gozzo and
Kaimana Bartolome each added solo home runs.
Â
The Bison held a 4-1 advantage when play was suspended in the fourth inning Sunday night as storms rolled into the Enid area. Starter
Jake Lipetzky, named to the All-GAC First Team on Saturday, turned in another strong performance with six strikeouts, surrendering one run on two hits through three full innings when the game was called.
Â
Hudson Pearson came in in relief of Lipetzky when play resumed Monday, going 2.1 innings and giving up one run on just one hit.
Â
The Wonder Boys tried to make things interesting with a three-run rally in the bottom of the eighth against OBU reliever
Shane Kelso, but
Andrew Eppenbach came in with two outs and was able to induce a flyout by ATU's Dylan McDearmon to end the threat. Eppenbach picked up three outs in the ninth to close out the game and pick up his first save of the season.
Â
OBU will now face No. 1 UAM at approximately 3 p.m. with an automatic berth in the championship series on the line.
Todd Miller, the Voice of the Bison, will once again be on the call from David Allen Memorial Ballpark with live audio available exclusively at
