Lady Bison Continue Road Swing in Kansas

Oklahoma Baptist Women's Lacrosse Notes
Oklahoma Baptist (1-0) at Saint Mary (0-1)

THE GAME
  • After claiming a 16-9 win over Hendrix College to start the 2019 season, Oklahoma Baptist heads north to take on Saint Mary in Leavenworth, Kansas, on Friday, Feb. 22 at 6 p.m. in the first of two games this weekend
  • The Lady Bison will be looking to start the season 2-0 for the first time in the Division II era, and just the second time in program history. OBU's best-ever start to a season was 2015 when the team started 6-0

SCOUTING THE SPIRES
  • Saint Mary is 0-1 after dropping a 23-14 road decision to Hendrix two weeks ago
  • The offense runs through Karissa Proctor, who is responsible for 10 of the Spires' 14 goals this season. She took 21 shots to tally her 10 goals, and now owns a .476 shooting percentage
  • Rachel Thomas is the only other USM player to record a goal this season, accounting for four goals
  • Jentry Seichepine got the start in USM's season opener, allowing all 23 goals. She owns a .378 save percentage on 40 total shots faced
  • Saint Mary suffered 30 turnovers in their season opener, including 24 that were forced by the Hendrix defense

THE COACHES
  • Oklahoma Baptist: Jordan Beech (Oklahoma), 14-28, 4th season
  • Saint Mary: Rainey Whitworth (Southern Virginia), 4-10, 2nd season

THE SERIES
  • This is the fourth straight year for the Lady Bison and Spires to meet each other on the field. OBU owns a perfect 3-0 record against USM so far in the series
  • The Lady Bison are 2-0 in Shawnee, and claimed their first-ever road win in the series last year, 12-8. Lauren McCormack led the way with four goals and two assists, followed by Brooke Harden with three goals. Courtney Barnickle posted 17 saves in the win
  • OBU has outscored USM 43-13 across the first three games in the series

OBU OUTLOOK
  • For the third time in program history, OBU is starting the season 1-0. The team's 16 goals against Hendrix are the most scored in a season-opener in program history
  • Lauren McCormack leads OBU with six goals, and is just 30 points away from becoming OBU's first 100-point scorer. Her 70 points (45g, 25a) currently has her tied for fifth all-time with Alexis Martin
  • Four Lady Bison scored their first career goals against Hendrix: Devin Miller, Madison Gordon, Morgan McCoy and Emery Kennedy
  • OBU is 12-0 when holding opponents below 10 goals since Beech took over the program ahead of the 2016 season. The Lady Bison have only recorded one win over that same span when allowing 10 or more goals
  • Courtney Barnickle saved six of seven free-position shots faced. It's the sixth time in the past two seasons that she has given up one or fewer free-position goals in a game
