SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist lost meaningful ground in its efforts to gain a berth in the Great American Conference women's basketball tournament by suffering a 91-65 loss to visiting Arkansas Tech Thursday in Shawnee.
OBU fell to 10-15 overall and 6-13 in the GAC. The Lady Bison are ninth place, two games back of eighth-place Northwestern Oklahoma State with three games remaining. The top eight teams qualify for the league's post-season tournament next month in Bartlesville.
OBU has a quick turnaround in an effort to reverse its recent misfortune. The Lady Bison host Harding in a game set for Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Noble Complex.
Victoria Blankenship had 22 points and
Autumn Avina added 14 for OBU who found themselves down by double-digits to Tech after the first quarter.
ATU, 12-13 and 9-10 in GAC play, had the score nearly doubled at half leading 51-26. The best quarter for OBU was the third outscoring ATU by a 22-15 margin. However, OBU never got within 17 points during the final 10 minutes of the game.
OBU finished making 20-of-55 shots for 36.4 percent. The Bison were just six-for-20 (30%) from three-point distance. OBU did well at the free throw line making 19-of-21 attempts. Blankenship had a season-best 10-for-11 from the stripe.
