SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist let a large second-half lead slip away allowing Arkansas Tech to escape with an 89-87 men's basketball victory Thursday in Shawnee.
Alex Brown's putback of an errant three-point attempt with 0.4 seconds was enough to lift the Wonder Boys to the improbable comeback. Â
The loss dropped OBU to 13-12 and 12-7 in the Great American Conference standings. The Bison are tied for fourth with Henderson State, one game back of third-place Southeastern Oklahoma.
OBU remains at home for its next contest Saturday against Harding. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. at the Noble Complex.
Â
OBU appeared to have the Tech game well in hand for much of the night leading by 15 points in the second half.
Tech used an 18-7 run over a six-minute span to get back into the game. The Wonder Boys, who ended the game with an astonishing 17 three-pointers, evened the game at 73-73 on a three-point basket by Mason Cline.
OBU had its own answer as
Harrison Stoddart knocked down a three-pointer and
Mohammed Abubakar scored twice after a pair of nifty post moves.
Â
OBU had chances late but
Antonio Wade made one of two free throws with seven seconds to play that opened the door for Tech's unlikely win.
Stoddart led OBU with 25 points while Wade added 24. The Bison also got double-figure scoring by
Dishon Lowery and
Brantly Thompson who each finished with 12.
OBU shot 59.3 percent (35-of-59), the second highest percentage of the season. However, the Bison were outscored 51-21 from three-point range.
