ADA, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist put itself in a favorable spot heading into the final weeks of the men's basketball season with an important 66-64 victory over East Central. The win clinched a spot in the Great American Conference Tournament, improving the Bison to 13-11 overall and 12-6 in league play. OBU is now alone in third place, one game back of Southern Arkansas.
The Bison will return home for two games, playing Arkansas Tech and Harding this week at the Noble Complex in Shawnee.
Harrison Stoddart had 19 points and
Dishon Lowery added 15 including making several free throws down the stretch as the Bison held off the Tigers.
OBU led 35-25 at half and kept its cushion late until ECU tied it at 60-60 just outside the three-minute mark.
Stoddart, who made a season-high six three pointers, buried his last one late to put OBU back in front at 63-60. Lowery, who was a 70 percent free throw shooter entering the game, made seven of his last eight. He made 11-of-14 for the game.
OBU made 21-of-47 shots for 44.7 percent from the field, including nine three pointers. In addition to Stoddart's six, teammate
Brantly Thompson added three of his own.
