DURANT, Okla. – Oklahoma Baptist fell in its Great American Conference baseball opener, losing 5-1 to Southeastern Oklahoma State Friday afternoon in Durant. The two teams will continue their series with a doubleheader to begin at noon Saturday.
OBU, now 4-5 overall, managed just three hits against Southeastern starter Cody Nitson, who struck out 10 Bison batters through eight innings before giving way to relief in the ninth.
Kaiamana Bartolome gave OBU its only run, hamming a one-out homer in the fifth to trim Southeastern's lead to 2-1. The Bison managed three base runners over the last three innings thanks to a walk, a hit-by-pitch and a fielding error. However, none scored as the Bison ended up stranding seven runners on the day.
