Pitchers Team to One-Hit ECU in Easy Win

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist used five different pitchers who all had turns in silencing East Central in a 13-2 baseball romp Tuesday in Shawnee.

Starter A.J. Merkel along with relievers Hudson Pearson, Albert Monge, Caleb Bly and Shane Kelso teamed for a one-hitter against the Tigers. The quintet combined for seven strikeouts. ECU's lone runs came in the fourth on a two-run homer by Dylan Lang.

Offensively Brett Bloomfield had four hits, including a lead-off triple in the fifth that sparked the Bison to a six-run inning. Teammate Eric Carlson had a pair of doubles and two RBI's while Jake Gozzo smashed his team-leading fourth home run to lead off the third.

OBU improved to 4-4 with the win while ECU remained winless in eight games. OBU is scheduled to begin a weekend series with Southeastern Oklahoma Friday in Shawnee. First pitch is set for 4 p.m.
