WICHITA, Kan. – The Oklahoma Baptist men's and women's track and field teams opened up their season earlier this week at the Shocker Multi. This was the second time the Bison have run at this event.
Davey Cleveland and
Breanna Jaggars were the top overall finishers for the Bison.
Jaggars finished eighth overall in the day one women's indoor pentathlon. She started out the day with a solid performance in the 60-meter hurdles, placing sixth with a time of 9.37. Jaggars then finished seventh in the high jump with a 1.43-meter mark, and finished out the final three events in eighth, respectively.
Coach
Mark Heard offered his praise to Jaggars, complementing her for a strong first outing of her career. "The hurdles are her primary event and it showed, she was very competitive," Heard said. "In the field events Breanna did well in her first multi and will continue to improve."
On the men's side, Cleveland was the top finisher for the Bison, with a ninth-place finish on day one.
Reid Fellers came in second for the team finishing in 10
th. Ben Potts,
Zane Nutter, and
Carson Askew finish out the top five for the Bison finishing 12th, 13th, and 15th, respectively.
In the 60 meter relay Potts finished in fifth with a time of 7.25. In the second event of day Nutter was the top finisher for OBU, finishing in seventh with a mark of 6.11 meters. Fellers was the top finisher in the shot-put event with a ninth-place finish. In the fourth event of the day Nutter took second in the high jump with a 1.92-meter jump. In the final event of the day Cleveland was the top finisher, finishing in seventh in the 60-meter hurdles with a 9.05 time.
"Overall day one had its ups and downs, but this is a young group and have gained invaluable experience," Heard said. "I am optimistic about today."
Fellers led the team in day two of action. He finished eighth overall, improving his day one placement by two spots. Cleveland and Potts followed close in toe finishing ninth and 10th, respectively. Nutter finished 13th and Askew finished 15th to round out the top five performers for the Bison.
Up next for the Bison is the Crimson & Gold Invitational hosted by Pittsburg State this Friday and Saturday, Dec. 6-7.
