Women's Hoops Drops Heartbreaker to 'Bods

PITTSBURG, Kan. – The OBU women's basketball team dropped a heartbreaker in its final game of the GAC/MIAA Challenge, falling 89-88 to Washburn Saturday night. The Ichabods' Abby Oliver hit one of two free throws with one second remaining to give Washburn the winning margin.

After trailing 50-46 at the break, the Bison stormed out of the locker room with a 29-point third quarter to stake themselves to a 75-71 lead heading into the final period. But the Ichabods outscored OBU 18-13 in the final frame, culminating in the game-winning foul shot.

Freshman Kalifa Ford led the way for the Bison, scoring 22 points on 8-12 shooting, while also adding five assists and four rebounds. Transfer Jaylin Stapleton added 19 for OBU, along with five assists, and Mikayla Shulanberger also chipped in 15 points and a team-high six rebounds on the night.

The Bison make their home debut Tuesday, Nov. 12, against Ozark Christian. Tipoff inside the Noble Complex is set for 7:30 p.m. The game is part of a "Girls Night" promotion, with the women's basketball team playing the second game of a doubleheader following the OBU volleyball team's match against Southeastern Oklahoma State at 5:30 p.m.
