Women Lose 67-65 to Visiting NWOSU

SHAWNEE, OK – The Oklahoma Baptist women's basketball team had chances down the stretch but it was Northwestern Oklahoma State who came away with the game's biggest play winning 67-65 in a tight contest Saturday in Shawnee.

The loss dropped OBU to 7-9 overall and 3-7 in the Great American Conference. The Lady Bison are midway through a four-game homestand. They next play Thursday, Jan. 24 against Southern Arkansas at 5:30 p.m. at the Noble Complex in Shawnee.

NWOSU scored the game winner when Kalea King made a basket after working her way free in the lane with two seconds to play.

OBU fought back and forged a late-game tie after trailing most of the last three quarters. The Lady Bison knotted it at 65-65 when Autumn Avina hit a jumper with 25 seconds to play. NWOSU then ran the clock to almost the end before King scored in the final seconds.

OBU was led in scoring by Mikayla Shulanberger with 17 points while Avina added 15. Katy Custer added 12 and Victoria Blankenship scored 10 to complete the double-figure scoring.

OBU ended the game making 43.5 percent of their shots on 27-of-62 attempts. The Lady Bison hit 10-of-15 (66.7%) in the final quarter as they outscored the Rangers 26-17. OBU was just six-of-25 (24.0%) from three-point distance.
