SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist starts its first Great American Conference Baseball Tournament Saturday at 7 p.m., taking on Henderson State at Enid's David Allen Memorial Ballpark.

Henderson State enters at 29-18 overall and 21-12 in the GAC while the Bison are 28-15 this year with a 20-10 conference mark.

OBU took two of three games at Henderson State in February, winning 4-2 and 6-3 with a 4-3 loss squeezed in between.

Brett Berghammer leads OBU and the GAC with a .400 batting average while Zane Gelphman leads both the Bison and the league with 16 home runs. Gelphman also leads the squad with 44 runs batted in.

OBU is hitting .321 as a team and has a staff ERA of 4.69.

Caleb Bly leads the team with a 3.51 earned run average while Zach Fowler is tops with seven wins. Bly averages 14.16 strikeouts per game, which leads the GAC and is third nationally.

Caleb Carr leads the Reddies with a .372 average while Zack Gray has nine home runs and 41 runs batted in to lead HSU in both categories. As a team, Henderson State bats .276.

The HSU pitching staff has a 4.70 earned run average, led by closer Taylor Langston's 1.48 ERA to go with his eight saves. Bryant Haralson has a 9-2 record with a 3.55 ERA to top the starters.

Against the tournament field, OBU is hitting .243, led by PJ Harris at .324 while the pitching staff is led by Zach Fowler's 3.38 earned run average. The Bison staff has a 4.75 ERA against the teams in the tournament.

In the three games against the Reddies, the Bison hit .255 with Garrett McKee batting .417. Mychal Yarbor threw seven shutout innings.

In the three games against the Bison, HSU's Jordan Harris batted .364, but the team hit just .159. Reddie starting pitchers carried an ERA over six for the series, but Zach Eschberger allowed no earned runs in his seven-inning complete game win.

A win by the Bison puts OBU in a 7:30 p.m. contest against Southern Arkansas or Arkansas Tech on Sunday, but a loss sends them to a 4 p.m. Sunday start against the winner of the Arkansas-Monticello game against Southwestern Oklahoma State.

The six-team, double-elimination tournament concludes Tuesday.
