Cox Approaching Milestone Win at UAM

SHAWNEE – Oklahoma Baptist travels to Arkansas-Monticello this weekend for a three-game series against the Great American Conference frontrunners.
 
Coach Bobby Cox has 1,324 wins coming into the series – a total equal to that of NCAA Division II record-holder Mike Matheny, formerly of Southeastern Oklahoma State. Cox will not be recognized by the NCAA for the record because of OBU's long-time affiliation with the NAIA.
 
OBU is 12-6 this season with a 6-3 record in the Great American Conference.
 
Juan Gonzalez is batting .418 with Brett Berghammer right behind him at .414 to lead the team. Zane Gelphman has eight home runs and shares the team RBI lead with Berghammer at 15. OBU is batting .328 as a team.
 
Projected starting pitchers for OBU in the series are Albertus Barber (4-1, 3.72 earned run average), Zach Fowler (3-1, 2.51) and Mychal Yarbor (1-2, 6.75). Nick Burnham has two saves and a team-leading 1.08 earned run average while Caleb Bly has an impressive 38 strikeouts in 18.1 innings.
 
OBU has a 4.22 team earned run average.
 
The Boll Weevils are 9-0 in the GAC and 13-3 overall with series sweeps over Southeastern, East Central and Southern Nazarene.
 
Garrett Dodd leads UAM with a .426 batting average and he shares the team home run lead at six with Sean Wagner. Wagner leads the team with 23 RBI. As a squad, the Weevils are batting .356 with 33 home runs.
 
Projected series starters for UAM are Michael Harrison (3-0, 4.28 earned run average), Peyton Sullivan (2-1, 5.71) and Braden Chambers (3-0, 5.93). Dawson Moser has four saves as the UAM closer and has not allowed a run through nine innings in seven games.
 
UAM carries a 5.40 earned run average.
